Napoleon III jewelry, an incomparable design
They are surprisingly light and so beautiful to wear... They delight lovers of antique jewelry with their resolutely old look, but paradoxically they have a modern edge. Indeed, observe the symmetry of the lines and the balance of the whole... Napoleon III jewelry has the beginnings of Art-Deco jewelry. In our opinion, the main specificity lies in the materials used. Napoleon III jewels are often set with diamonds in silver, rather than in platinum as would later be the case. The silver is deliberately blackened, contrasting with the brilliance of the diamonds...sublime!
The gold used is pink, even red. It's 18K gold, with an increased copper content to give it a warm appearance that blends wonderfully with the blackened silver.
The motifs are often classic. There are insects (bumblebees, bees, dragonflies, etc.) and diamond-paved flowers whose leaves are either paved or finely chased.
This was also the period of the sublimely beautiful Napoleon III aspen brooches, whose stem and leaves are fixed, but the top is mounted on a spring system. These brooches often feature several flowers of different sizes, which sparkle when the brooch begins to vibrate at the slightest movement of the body. These trembling brooches are much sought-after by collectors of old-cut brooches when they are complete.
