The Antique Snake Rings

In 19thᵉ century Paris, snake-shaped gold rings were fascinating jewelry imbued with mystery and symbolism. Highly prized during the reign of Napoleon III, they were influenced by the Romantic style and the infatuation with Antiquity. The serpent, symbol of eternity, wisdom and protection, was often depicted coiled around the finger, sometimes with a head adorned with precious stones such as emeralds or rubies.

These rings were particularly popular with the Parisian elite and bourgeoisie, seduced by their refinement and significance. Their success was reinforced by the rise of the great jewelry houses, such as Boucheron and Chaumet, who created pieces of remarkable finesse. Even today, these jewels embody timeless elegance and bear witness to the exceptional craftsmanship of Parisian artisans of the XIXᵉ century.
