During the 1920s, brooches held an important place in French fine jewelry. Their designs evolved toward geometric compositions, characterized by straight lines, stepped patterns, and an emphasis on symmetry, drawing inspiration from the architecture and decorative arts of the period.
Platinum became one of the preferred metals for these creations. Its mechanical strength allowed jewelers to produce exceptionally delicate, often openwork settings while maintaining excellent structural integrity. Diamonds, frequently Old European cuts, single cuts, or rose cuts, were arranged in carefully balanced geometric patterns. Settings could combine bead, prong, and bezel techniques, sometimes enhanced by finely detailed milgrain edges.
Emeralds introduced a distinctive element of color into these predominantly white compositions. Cut into rectangular, square, or baguette shapes, they contributed to the architectural structure of the design. Their combination with diamonds created striking contrasts that were particularly appreciated in Art Deco jewelry.
Today, these brooches reflect the exceptional craftsmanship of French jewelry workshops during the interwar period. The precision of their settings, the quality of their construction, and the modernity of their designs continue to make these antique pieces highly desirable.
