Art Deco Platinum and Diamond Earrings, France, circa 1920

In the early 1920s, French jewelry design evolved toward more geometric compositions, characterized by symmetrical patterns, delicate settings, and the highly skilled use of platinum.

The strength of this precious metal allowed jewelers to create exceptionally fine structures, intricate openwork designs, and delicate settings. Diamonds were often secured with slender prongs or surrounded by finely beaded edges, crafted using the milgrain technique. This meticulous detailing emphasized the contours of each stone while providing a distinctive finish characteristic of fine jewelry from this period.

Diamonds were cut in various styles, including Old European cuts, single cuts, and rose cuts. Their proportions and arrangement contributed to the overall balance of each composition. Articulated elements, suspended motifs, and openwork structures also introduced movement and lightness, particularly in more elaborate designs.

Today, French Art Deco diamond earrings from the 1920s are highly regarded for their exceptional craftsmanship, precise stone settings, and remarkably modern lines. Their understated elegance makes them equally suitable for everyday wear and evening occasions.
